Over 40,000 students have participated in biotechnology laboratories through the Biotechnology in the Classroom program. Currently, nine kits are in circulation throughout the greater Sacramento Valley region. Lab protocols are aligned to both the national and California state science frameworks.

Prior to receiving a biotechnology kit, teachers must participate in an in-depth workshop illustrating the proper usage of the equipment and the science behind the activities. These teachers then become part of the Biotechnology Teacher Support Network (BTSN).
